- February……….Prayer Pals! Anonymous prayer partners offer unseen love for the children and beautiful lessons of faith are shared with the kids.
- February - April…......... Lent Celebrations, Lent Season Calendars given to all families, Ash Wednesday Children’s Church & Activities, Zacchaeus in the tree “live storybook skit”, Palm Sunday kids process with palms and encounter a live donkey similar to the one Jesus rode on in this “live storybook skit”, Easter Sunday Egg Hunt Festival.
- May……………Movies in May benefit to fund VBS, Muffins for Mom Mother’s Day Fun,
- June………. Move to your new grade in Sunday School, Donuts for Dad Fathers Day Fun, Summer scripture memorizing challenge, Summer Scripture Bible look-up hook-up, and Summer Sing-Along Music CD gift to all families.
- July………. Declaration of Faith, Vacation Bible School 5 Days of Evening Fun 6:00 PM – 8:00 PM.
- August … Stories Alive … puppets & puppies combine to enhance literacy skills for kids telling stories with puppets, and reading stories to gentle therapy dogs. Classroom supply collection drive.
- September ….. School has begun and new classroom décor & new curriculum session begins in Sunday School.
- October…. Fear Not Scavenger Hunts, Lessons on Saints,
- November ….. Hanging of the Greens classroom decorations and stories told to the kids by Mrs. Santa Clause. Third grader Bible presentations, All Saints Day Hero Party, Thanksgiving pumpkin pie classroom party.
- December……. Advent Chocolate Calendars with daily prayers for all kids, Jesus Birthday Party with special guests’ of honor Mr.& Mrs. Santa Clause.
Family Ministries
- Tweens .. for kids in third - fifth grade where faith is a verb with kids busy with a variety of church and community service projects.
- Story-time Ministry .. Kids use puppets to reinact fables and folklore where an underlying morale is always learned.
- Read to Rascal .. Offered monthly .. kids are invited to read a storybook to a gentle therapy dog that loves to hear the kids read. Literacy skills improve dramatically in this non-threatening reading atmosphere.
- Girls Running for Truth .. A season of sport where girls learn and earn badges in nutrition/physical fitness, "Real"Beauty, Honesty, Responsibility, Diligence, Self Control, Fruits of the Spirit, Preciousness in Christ. Kids run for the fitness of their soul. A $60.00 fee is required to participate in this program.
- Acolytes .. Kids leading in worship by lighting altar candles and serving communion during all three Sunday morning worship services.
- Nurture Liaison .. meets with kids in Sunday School where cards and art is created to be given to identified people that for health reasons are unable to attend church.
- Stories Alive .. Six morning classes offered in August where kids learn puppet story-telling and meet with therapy dogs to read their skit to the dogs. Stories come to life much like the parables of Jesus' teachings.
- Independence Day Parade .. Families are invited to decorate the float and participate in the July 4th parade in Summerlin. Walking, waving and singing VBS songs as the community is invited to join VBS and our church home for worship.
- Hanging of the Greens ... Families decorate the church with Christmas trees, wreaths, garland and beautiful lights, kids decorate 8 classroom Christmas trees, enjoy hot cocoa, decorate sugar cookies and enjoy a couple of Christmas stories read to them by Mrs. Clause.
- Triathlon .. Kids Tri ... two events where Desert Spring folks are scheduled in heats closely numbered heats for the adult triathlon and kids triathlon (conducted on separate days). The triathlons are spoonsored through Lifetime Fitness and there is a sign-up fee for participation.
- Faith at Home Series .. Email lessons on teaching faith and establishing faith habits in your home. If you would like to receive the Faith at Home notes please email dsumcfamilyministries@gmail.com
